GAAD 2026: Global Accessibility Awareness Day
May: Accessibility Awareness Month
May is also a time to talk about accessibility. Every year, the third Thursday of May marks Global Accessibility Awareness Day, an international initiative that highlights digital inclusion. This year, Lumen is joining the conversation with its first local event in Kistelek.
Lumen Accessibility Experience Day – See it from a different perspective

The aim of the event is to make accessibility more tangible and easier to relate to in everyday life. Through short, interactive situations, we show what happens when the conditions we usually take for granted suddenly change.
Visitors will be able to try stations such as:
- navigating in complete darkness
- holding a conversation in a noisy environment
- using digital interfaces in different ways
The central experience is the “Dark Room,” where a simple task is placed in an unfamiliar setting. Moving through space, finding objects, and judging proportions all feel different there.
Several smaller stations will also be available:
- interactive games and short challenges
- a communication exercise in a noisy environment
- laptops with different accessibility settings
- short, easy-to-follow information about the topic
There will also be a quieter corner where visitors can talk, ask questions, or simply take a moment to pause. A separate play area will be available for children as well.
The event is open to everyone and can be explored at your own pace. No prior knowledge is needed.
Date: Saturday, May 30, 2026
Location: Main hall of the Klebelsberg Cultural Center, Petofi Street 7-9, Kistelek
We welcome everyone who is curious about how even a simple situation can change when the usual conditions are no longer in place.
