We have shared fewer updates recently, but that certainly does not mean we have been taking a break. Behind the scenes, we have been preparing several important projects, and we would like to briefly share our main plans with you.
Grants: we have reached the final round of Tesco’s “Start for the Future” program
Over the past few months, we have been working on several funding opportunities. As a young organization, our access to traditional grant funding is still limited, so every opportunity like this is an important step towards launching our programs on a sustainable footing.
We are delighted to share that Lumen Association has reached the public voting round of Tesco’s “Start for the Future” program.
Through our application, we hope to secure funding to launch Lumen CodeSchool: a program of playful, locally accessible digital maker workshops for children in Kistelek and the surrounding communities. The sessions would introduce children to programming, robotics, and digital creation, helping them engage with technology not merely as users, but as creators too.
We will be giving this important opportunity special attention over the coming weeks. Soon, we will share exactly how and where you can support our program.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged us, helped us, or followed our work so far. It means a great deal to know that more and more of you are standing beside us.
Developing the Civil Portal
Meanwhile, work on our new Civil Portal initiative is moving ahead at full speed.
The platform will be available at civil.org.hu.
Our goal is to create a free, modern, and accessible space where local civil society organizations can easily share their programs, events, and initiatives. Visitors will be able to explore civil society programs through an easy-to-search events calendar, helping even more valuable local initiatives find their audience.
Development and internal testing are expected to be completed by the end of 2026, followed by the platform’s official launch.
EU Code Week and the Digital Compass program
As part of our Digital Compass program, we are also preparing for EU Code Week in October.
This series of activities will be an important milestone for our CodeSchool initiative as well. We plan to visit kindergartens and primary schools, where children can explore digital tools, computational thinking, and the basics of programming through playful activities.
Thanks to contributions from our members, we already have most of the equipment we need. Over the next few weeks, we will finalize the locations and dates.
General assembly and community life
We are also planning a general assembly for the second half of August. Several important topics will be on the agenda, including fine-tuning our organizational structure and welcoming new members to the association. We will hold the meeting in a warm, informal atmosphere at our registered office and share a separate update about it afterwards.
As before, much of our work will continue to be made possible by the efforts of our volunteers, members, and supporters. We would once again like to thank everyone who contributes in any way to the continued growth of the Lumen community.
Thank you for being with us! We will be back soon with more news and updates.
